Song of Solomon 7: His desire is toward me

Read Song of Solomon 7:1-13 before you meet.

In a few lines

The saying of 2:16 and 6:3 comes a third time in 7:10, and this time it goes on, "His desire is toward me". That word, teshuqah, is in the Hebrew Bible only there and in Genesis 3:16 and 4:7. And the call to come, said to a woman in 2:10 and 2:13, is said to a man in 7:11: "Come, my beloved!"

The verse to carry

“I am my beloved’s. His desire is toward me.”

Song of Solomon 7:10

To talk about

  1. 1. "My beloved is mine, and I am his" (2:16); "I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine" (6:3); "I am my beloved’s. His desire is toward me" (7:10). What do you notice as the saying comes back each time?

  2. 2. "Behold, you are beautiful, my beloved, yes, pleasant" (1:16) is said to a man, and "How beautiful and how pleasant you are" (7:6) to a woman. What do you notice when the Song gives the same praise both ways?

  3. 3. The chapter ends, "At our doors are all kinds of precious fruits, new and old, which I have stored up for you, my beloved" (7:13). What does this close show you about how the Song speaks of love?
