Song of Solomon 6: I am my beloved’s
Read Song of Solomon 6:1-13 before you meet.
In a few lines
6:4 and 6:10 both end "awesome as an army with banners", with a word the Hebrew Bible has only three times. In Hebrew the favorite of 6:9 and the clear of 6:10 are one word. And Return comes four times in 6:13, and nowhere else in the Song.
The verse to carry
“I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine. He browses among the lilies.”
Song of Solomon 6:3
To talk about
1. "I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine" (6:3) says the words of 2:16 the other way round. What do you hear differently when the order changes?
2. 6:5-7 says again, almost word for word, lines from 4:1-3. Why do you think the Song says some of its words more than once?
3. The chapter ends with a question: "Why do you desire to gaze at the Shulammite, as at the dance of Mahanaim?" (6:13). What do you make of a chapter that ends on a question, and on so many questions (6:1, 6:10, 6:13)?
