Romans 4: Abraham believed God
Read Romans 4:1-25 before you meet.
In a few lines
Behind accounted, counted, counts, credited and charge in Romans 4 is one Greek verb, eleven times in one chapter. Abraham believed "God, who gives life to the dead" (4:17), and the chapter ends with those "who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead" (4:24).
The verse to carry
“who was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.”
Romans 4:25
To talk about
1. "Against hope, Abraham in hope believed" (4:18). When have you kept hoping when it looked as if there was nothing left to hope for?
2. "being fully assured that what he had promised, he was also able to perform" (4:21). Which of God's promises do you find it hardest to be fully assured of, and why?
3. "Now it was not written that it was accounted to him for his sake alone, but for our sake also" (4:23-24). What changes when you read an old story like Abraham's as written "for our sake also"?
