Psalm 92: Fruit in old age

Read Psalm 92:1-15 before you meet.

In a few lines

In Psalm 92 the wicked "spring up as the grass" (92:7) and the righteous "flourish like the palm tree" (92:12) with one Hebrew verb, parach. What differs is what lasts: the wicked "will be destroyed forever" (92:7), and the righteous "will still produce fruit in old age" (92:14).

The verse to carry

“The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree. He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.”

Psalm 92:12

To talk about

  1. 1. The psalm tells of God's loving kindness in the morning and his faithfulness every night (92:2). What is one thing you could thank him for at the start and the end of a day this week?

  2. 2. "A senseless man doesn’t know" (92:6) that the flourishing of the wicked doesn't last (92:7). When has someone else's success made it hard for you to trust God, and what helped?

  3. 3. "They will still produce fruit in old age" (92:14). Who is someone older you know whose life still bears fruit, and what have you learned from them?
