Psalm 87: This one was born there
Read Psalm 87:1-7 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 87 names Rahab, Babylon, Philistia, Tyre and Ethiopia, and then says, "This one was born there" (Psalm 87:4): the same three Hebrew words the LORD counts when he writes up the peoples (Psalm 87:6). And its last word, in you (Psalm 87:7), is in Hebrew the word it used to speak to the city of God (Psalm 87:3).
The verse to carry
“Those who sing as well as those who dance say, “All my springs are in you.””
Psalm 87:7
To talk about
1. "Glorious things are spoken about you, city of God" (87:3). The verse doesn't list them. What does the rest of the psalm say about the city?
2. "This one was born there" (87:4). The psalm names peoples you might not expect. What surprises you in the list, and what do you make of the line that follows it?
3. "All my springs are in you" (87:7). What would you name as a spring for you: something that keeps you going with God?
