Psalm 86: Make my heart undivided
Read Psalm 86:1-17 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 86:15 prays back, word for word, what the LORD proclaimed before Moses in Exodus 34:6: "a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness and truth". And 86:5's "ready to forgive" is one Hebrew word, sallach, found nowhere else in the Hebrew Bible.
The verse to carry
“Teach me your way, LORD. I will walk in your truth. Make my heart undivided to fear your name.”
Psalm 86:11
To talk about
1. "Make my heart undivided to fear your name" (86:11). What pulls your heart in more than one direction right now?
2. The psalmist comes to God as "poor and needy" (86:1) and as "your servant" (86:2). How do you think of yourself when you pray? What would change if you came the way he does?
3. In 86:15 the psalmist prays back to God the words God used of himself in Exodus 34:6. Which words about who God is would you most want to pray back to him this week, and why?
