Psalm 84: How lovely are your dwellings
Read Psalm 84:1-12 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 84 is the only psalm that says Blessed (ashrei) three times: of those who dwell in God's house, of those on the way to Zion, and last of "the man who trusts in you" (84:12). And the sparrow's home (84:3) is bayit, the Hebrew word of God's house (84:4, 84:10), in a psalm that longs for the LORD's courts (84:2).
The verse to carry
“For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”
Psalm 84:10
To talk about
1. "My soul longs, and even faints for the courts of the LORD" (84:2). What have you longed for like that? Have you ever longed for God that way?
2. "Passing through the valley of Weeping, they make it a place of springs" (84:6). Think of a hard season you've passed through. Did anything good come up in it, for you or for someone else?
3. "I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness" (84:10). What would you give up, or take a lower place for, to be near God?
