Psalm 76: In Judah, God is known
Read Psalm 76:1-12 before you meet.
In a few lines
Two of the psalm's words for where God dwells (Psalm 76:2) are words other verses use of a lion's lair, and Deuteronomy 33:27 uses one of them of God himself. The valiant men "slept their last sleep" (Psalm 76:5) with the verb of Psalm 121:4, where the one who keeps Israel never slumbers. And God arose to judgment "to save all the afflicted ones of the earth" (Psalm 76:9).
The verse to carry
“You pronounced judgment from heaven. The earth feared, and was silent, when God arose to judgment, to save all the afflicted ones of the earth. Selah.”
Psalm 76:8-9
To talk about
1. "In Judah, God is known" (76:1), and the psalm goes on to tell what he did. What has God done that you know him by?
2. "You, even you, are to be feared" (76:7), and the earth feared "when God arose to judgment, to save all the afflicted ones of the earth" (76:9). How does that change what it means to you to fear God?
3. "Make vows to the LORD your God, and fulfill them!" (76:11). Is there something you have promised God that you want to keep?
