Psalm 70: Come to me quickly
Read Psalm 70:1-5 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 70's first and last verses ask God to come quickly with one Hebrew verb, chush (70:1, 70:5): the Psalms have it nine times, and only this psalm twice. In between, one verb, seek, names two groups: those who seek the psalmist's soul, and those who seek God (70:2, 70:4).
The verse to carry
“But I am poor and needy. Come to me quickly, God. You are my help and my deliverer. LORD, don’t delay.”
Psalm 70:5
To talk about
1. "Hurry, God, to deliver me" (70:1). When have you prayed for God to hurry? What was it like to wait?
2. "Let all those who seek you rejoice and be glad in you" (70:4). In a short prayer about his own trouble, the psalmist also prays for everyone who seeks God. Who could you pray that for this week?
3. "But I am poor and needy" (70:5). What makes it hard to come to God as someone in need? What helps?
