Psalm 69: The zeal of your house
Read Psalm 69:1-36 before you meet.
In a few lines
One verse of Psalm 69 goes to Jesus twice: its first half is what the disciples remembered at the temple, "Zeal for your house will eat me up" (John 2:17), where the psalm's consumes is the Hebrew verb for eating; its second half is Paul's word for Christ, who "didn’t please himself" (Romans 15:3).
The verse to carry
“But as for me, my prayer is to you, LORD, in an acceptable time. God, in the abundance of your loving kindness, answer me in the truth of your salvation.”
Psalm 69:13
To talk about
1. "Because for your sake, I have borne reproach" (69:7). When has following God cost you something with the people around you, and how did you carry it?
2. "I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; for comforters, but I found none" (69:20). Who around you might be looking for a comforter right now, and what could you do this week?
3. The psalm says "I am in pain and distress" (69:29), and the next verse is "I will praise the name of God with a song" (69:30). What would it look like for you to praise God before your situation changes?
