Psalm 68: You have ascended on high
Read Psalm 68:1-35 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 68 opens with nearly the words Moses spoke when the ark set out (Numbers 10:35). It puts the God "who rides on the clouds" (68:4) beside "A father of the fatherless" (68:5). And its "You have ascended on high" (68:18) is the verse Paul quotes in Ephesians 4:8, where the psalm's received gifts reads gave gifts.
The verse to carry
“A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.”
Psalm 68:5
To talk about
1. The psalm calls God "A father of the fatherless, and a defender of the widows" (68:5), and says, "God sets the lonely in families" (68:6). Who around you is alone, and how could you be part of the family God sets them in?
2. "Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burdens" (68:19). What burden are you carrying today that you need to let him carry?
3. The psalm pictures a procession: "The singers went before, the minstrels followed after" (68:25), and it names "little Benjamin" first among the tribes (68:27). What does it mean to you to worship among God's people, great and small?
