Psalm 66: Come and see, come and hear

Read Psalm 66:1-20 before you meet.

In a few lines

Psalm 66 calls twice: "Come, and see" (66:5) and "Come and hear" (66:16). The same two verbs come back at the end: the WEB's cherished in "If I cherished sin in my heart" (66:18) is the see of 66:5, and both listeneds in 66:18-19 are the hear of 66:16.

The verse to carry

“Blessed be God, who has not turned away my prayer, nor his loving kindness from me.”

Psalm 66:20

To talk about

  1. 1. "Come and hear, all you who fear God. I will declare what he has done for my soul" (66:16). Who first told you what God had done for them? What difference did it make to hear it?

  2. 2. "We went through fire and through water, but you brought us to the place of abundance" (66:12). Is there something you have come through with other people, not alone? How did it change how you look back on it?

  3. 3. "I will pay my vows to you, which my lips promised, and my mouth spoke, when I was in distress" (66:13-14). Have you ever made God a promise in a hard time? What became of it once the hard time had passed?
