Psalm 62: In God alone
Read Psalm 62:1-12 before you meet.
In a few lines
Six verses of Psalm 62 begin with akh (62:1 just after its title), the Hebrew behind its alone: no other chapter of the Hebrew Bible has the word as often. Its opening lines come back in 62:5-6 with one word gone: 62:2's "greatly" (62:2) isn't in 62:6. And "throw him down" (62:3) is the Hebrew verb of "You shall not murder" (Exodus 20:13).
The verse to carry
“My soul, wait in silence for God alone, for my expectation is from him.”
Psalm 62:5
To talk about
1. "My soul, wait in silence for God alone" (62:5). What makes it hard for you to be quiet before God? What helps?
2. "Trust in him at all times, you people. Pour out your heart before him" (62:8). What would it look like for you to pour out your heart before God this week?
3. "If riches increase, don’t set your heart on them" (62:10). Besides money, what else tempts you to set your heart on it instead of on God?
