Psalm 6: The voice of my weeping

Read Psalm 6:1-10 before you meet.

In a few lines

The verb of the psalmist's troubled bones (6:2) and his soul "in great anguish" (6:3) comes back in the last verse for his enemies, "dismayed" (6:10): one Hebrew verb, bahal. And "Return, LORD" (6:4) comes back as "They shall turn back" (6:10): one verb, shuv.

The verse to carry

“The LORD has heard my supplication. The LORD accepts my prayer.”

Psalm 6:9

To talk about

  1. 1. "But you, LORD—how long?" (6:3). The psalmist leaves the question open. Is there a "how long?" you are carrying right now that you haven't said out loud, to God or to anyone?

  2. 2. "Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears" (6:6). The psalm keeps its tears in the prayer. What makes it hard for you to bring grief, and not only requests, to God?

  3. 3. "The LORD has heard my supplication" (6:9) comes before "They shall turn back" (6:10). When has knowing you were heard mattered to you as much as the answer itself?
