Psalm 56: What can man do to me?
Read Psalm 56:1-13 before you meet.
In a few lines
The refrain comes back changed: "What can flesh do to me?" (56:4) becomes "What can man do to me?" (56:11), and the second time a line is added, "In the LORD, I will praise his word" (56:10), the only time the psalm says the LORD. And in "You count my wanderings… Aren’t they in your book?" (56:8), Strong's gives book as from the verb count.
The verse to carry
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. In God, I praise his word. In God, I put my trust. I will not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
Psalm 56:3-4
To talk about
1. "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you" (56:3). What are you afraid of right now, and what would putting your trust in God there look like this week?
2. "You count my wanderings. You put my tears into your container" (56:8). What does it change for you that God keeps count of what you've been through?
3. "All day long they twist my words" (56:5), yet "In God, I praise his word" (56:4). When people twist what you say, where does this psalm turn, and where do you?
