Psalm 50: The sacrifice of thanksgiving
Read Psalm 50:1-23 before you meet.
In a few lines
God says "I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices" (50:8), and to the wicked, "I will rebuke you" (50:21), with the same Hebrew verb. He needs nothing from anyone's stall, for "the world is mine" (50:12). What he asks for is "the sacrifice of thanksgiving" (50:14).
The verse to carry
“Call on me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me.”
Psalm 50:15
To talk about
1. "If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it" (50:12). What do you bring to God as if he needed it, and what changes if he needs nothing from you?
2. "Offer to God the sacrifice of thanksgiving" (50:14). What would it look like this week to thank God for something specific, and to say it out loud?
3. "You have taken my covenant on your lips" (50:16), "and throw my words behind you" (50:17). Where is there a gap between what you say about God and how you live?
