Psalm 43: Send out your light and your truth
Read Psalm 43:1-5 before you meet.
In a few lines
In 43:2 the psalmist goes "mourning", a Hebrew verb for being dark, and in 43:3 he asks God to send out his light and his truth to lead him. And where they lead doesn't end at the altar: "to the altar of God, to God, my exceeding joy" (43:4).
The verse to carry
“Oh, send out your light and your truth. Let them lead me. Let them bring me to your holy hill, to your tents.”
Psalm 43:3
To talk about
1. In one verse the psalmist calls God "the God of my strength" and asks, "Why have you rejected me?" (43:2). Have you ever prayed a question like that? What helped you keep praying?
2. "Oh, send out your light and your truth. Let them lead me" (43:3). Where in your life right now would you most like to be led, and what would help you follow?
3. The psalmist speaks to his own soul: "Why are you in despair, my soul? … Hope in God!" (43:5). What do you tell yourself when you are low? How is it like or unlike the psalm?
