Psalm 29: The LORD's voice
Read Psalm 29:1-11 before you meet.
In a few lines
"The LORD’s voice" comes seven times in Psalm 29 (29:3-9). Its opening call, "Ascribe to the LORD … glory and strength" (29:1), comes again in Psalm 96:7 to the families of nations. And its Flood is the Hebrew word Genesis uses for the flood in Noah's time, found only once outside Genesis in the Hebrew Bible: here (29:10).
The verse to carry
“The LORD will give strength to his people. The LORD will bless his people with peace.”
Psalm 29:11
To talk about
1. "Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name" (29:2). What would it look like for you to give him that glory this week, in what you say or in how you live?
2. The psalm hears the LORD's voice breaking the cedars and shaking the wilderness (29:5, 29:8). When have you been most aware of how great God is?
3. "The LORD will give strength to his people. The LORD will bless his people with peace" (29:11). Which do you need more right now, strength or peace? Why?
