Psalm 150: Everything that has breath

Read Psalm 150:1-6 before you meet.

In a few lines

The book of Psalms ends with the verb praise thirteen times in six verses. Its "heavens" are the expanse of Genesis 1 (150:1), its word for sounding comes nowhere else in the Hebrew Bible (150:3), and its breath is the word of Genesis 2:7: "Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!" (150:6).

The verse to carry

“Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!”

Psalm 150:6

To talk about

  1. 1. Psalm 150 calls for praise "for his mighty acts" (150:2) but doesn't name them. If you added one line to the psalm this week, which of God's acts would you name?

  2. 2. The psalm brings in trumpet, harp and lyre, tambourine and dancing, strings, flute and cymbals (150:3-5). What would it look like for you to praise God this week with what you have and do, not only with words?

  3. 3. The book of Psalms ends, "Let everything that has breath praise the LORD!" (150:6). After all its cries, questions and confessions, what helps you end a hard week with praise?
