Psalm 146: Whose hope is in the LORD
Read Psalm 146:1-10 before you meet.
In a few lines
The WEB says help twice, but in Hebrew they are two words: a son of man has no teshu'ah (146:3), and happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his ezer (146:5). And the one "who made heaven and earth" (146:6) is, in the same Hebrew word, oseh, the one "who executes justice for the oppressed" (146:7).
The verse to carry
“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD, his God,”
Psalm 146:5
To talk about
1. "Don’t put your trust in princes, in a son of man in whom there is no help" (146:3). Apart from God, what are you most tempted to count on for help? What would it look like to put your hope in the LORD there this week?
2. "While I live, I will praise the LORD" (146:2). What would praising him on an ordinary day this week look like for you?
3. Psalm 146:7-9 lists who the LORD is for: the oppressed, the hungry, prisoners, the blind, those bowed down, foreigners, the fatherless and the widow. Who in your life comes to mind as you read that list?
