Psalm 13: How long, LORD?
Read Psalm 13:1-6 before you meet.
In a few lines
The verb for what the psalmist's adversaries would do at his fall, "rejoice" (13:4), is the verb for his own heart in the next verse: "My heart rejoices in your salvation" (13:5). One Hebrew word, gil. And the psalm never says the LORD answered; its turn is "But I trust" (13:5).
The verse to carry
“But I trust in your loving kindness. My heart rejoices in your salvation.”
Psalm 13:5
To talk about
1. The psalmist's four "How long"s (13:1-2) are about God, about his own sorrow, and about his enemy. Which kind of "how long?" are you closest to carrying right now?
2. In the middle of his questions he still calls the LORD "my God" (13:3) and asks him to answer. What helps you keep talking to God when he seems silent?
3. The psalm doesn't say what changed before "But I trust in your loving kindness" (13:5). What would it look like for you to say that line this week, while you are still waiting?
