Psalm 126: Those who sow in tears

Read Psalm 126:1-6 before you meet.

In a few lines

Psalm 126 remembers the LORD bringing back those who returned to Zion, then prays with the same Hebrew verb, "Restore our fortunes again, LORD" (126:4). "The LORD has done great things" was said first among the nations, and the psalm took up the words (126:2-3). And one Hebrew word is both the singing of 126:2 and the joy of 126:5-6.

The verse to carry

“Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.”

Psalm 126:5

To talk about

  1. 1. The psalm remembers that "The LORD has done great things for us" (126:3), and then asks him to do it again (126:4). What has God already done for you that you lean on when you pray now?

  2. 2. Others said it first: "The LORD has done great things for them" (126:2). Has someone ever seen God at work in your life before you did? Whose story of God's help could you tell this week?

  3. 3. "Those who sow in tears will reap in joy" (126:5). What are you still doing faithfully through tears right now, and how can the group stand with you in it?
