Psalm 122: Let's go to the LORD's house
Read Psalm 122:1-9 before you meet.
In a few lines
In Hebrew "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" (122:6) is sha'alu shelom yerushalayim: the verb is ask, and with shalom it is how Joseph "asked them of their welfare" (Genesis 43:27). And the psalm opens with "the LORD’s house" (122:1) and closes with "the house of the LORD our God" (122:9).
The verse to carry
“A Song of Ascents. By David. I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to the LORD’s house!””
Psalm 122:1
To talk about
1. "I was glad when they said to me, “Let’s go to the LORD’s house!”" (122:1). Who has said "Let’s go" to you, and to whom could you say it?
2. The psalm prays peace "For my brothers’ and companions’ sakes" (122:8). Whose peace do you most want to pray for this week, and why?
3. "I will seek your good" (122:9). What would it look like for you to seek the good of the people around you, not only to wish it?
