Psalm 107: Let the redeemed say so
Read Psalm 107:1-43 before you meet.
In a few lines
Psalm 107 opens the book's fifth part with four pictures of rescue: the lost, the shut in, the sick and the storm-tossed. Each cries to the LORD, is brought out, and is called to thank him for his loving kindness. The Hebrew changes the rescue verb as it goes (107:6, 107:13, 107:28), and the storm's calm is a word the Hebrew Bible has only three times (107:29).
The verse to carry
“For he satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good.”
Psalm 107:9
To talk about
1. "Let the redeemed by the LORD say so" (107:2). When has God brought you through something you have never really said out loud? Who could you tell?
2. Two of the psalm's four groups are in trouble because of what they did (107:11, 107:17), and two are given no reason (107:4, 107:25). All four cry to the LORD, and all four are brought out. How does that change the way you pray when a trouble is your own fault?
3. "Whoever is wise will pay attention to these things" (107:43). What is one thing God has done for you that you want to keep paying attention to this week?
