Proverbs 7: Keep my words and live

Read Proverbs 7:1-27 before you meet.

In a few lines

In Hebrew the apple of your eye (7:2) and the middle of the night (7:9) are one word, ishon. And the woman is "in the streets" and "in the squares" (7:12), in Hebrew the very words of "Wisdom calls aloud in the street. She utters her voice in the public squares" (1:20): two voices, in the same places.

The verse to carry

“Keep my commandments and live! Guard my teaching as the apple of your eye.”

Proverbs 7:2

To talk about

  1. 1. The words are to be kept "as the apple of your eye" (7:2) and written "on the tablet of your heart" (7:3). What helps you keep words you've learned close enough that they're there when you need them?

  2. 2. The young man was walking "near her corner" (7:8) "in the twilight" (7:9), before anything else happened. Why do you think the chapter spends so long on where he walked? What does it look like to choose your road early?

  3. 3. "Tell wisdom, “You are my sister.”" (7:4). What would it mean in your week to treat wisdom as family, someone close, rather than a stranger?
