Proverbs 6: The commandment is a lamp
Read Proverbs 6:1-35 before you meet.
In a few lines
The seven things the LORD hates in Proverbs 6 name the same eyes, feet and devising heart as the worthless person just before them (6:13-14, 6:17-18), and 6:25's "Don’t lust" is, in Hebrew, the verb of "You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife" (Exodus 20:17).
The verse to carry
“For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,”
Proverbs 6:23
To talk about
1. The ant, "having no chief, overseer, or ruler" (6:7), still "provides her bread in the summer" (6:8). What helps you do what needs doing when no one is checking?
2. The list of what the LORD hates includes "a lying tongue" (6:17), "a false witness who utters lies" and "he who sows discord among brothers" (6:19). Why do you think so much of the list is about words, and what helps a group of friends keep from discord?
3. "For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light" (6:23). When has something you were taught shown you the way at the moment you needed it?
