Proverbs 4: Keep your heart
Read Proverbs 4:1-27 before you meet.
In a few lines
Proverbs 4 hands teaching down three generations: a father gives his sons what his own father taught him (4:3-4). The Keep of "Keep your heart" (4:23) is the verb of wisdom that "will keep you" (4:6), and the Hebrew word behind wellspring is used most often of a border (Joshua 15:4).
The verse to carry
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.”
Proverbs 4:23
To talk about
1. "For I was a son to my father … He taught me" (4:3-4). The father passes on words he was given. What words from someone older have stayed with you, and why?
2. "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life" (4:23). What helps you keep watch over your heart in an ordinary week?
3. "Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you" (4:25). What pulls your attention to the right or the left, and what helps you look ahead?
