Proverbs 31: A worthy woman
Read Proverbs 31:1-31 before you meet.
In a few lines
The mother warns her son, "Don’t give your strength to women" (31:3), and in Hebrew that strength is the worthy of the poem's first line: "Who can find a worthy woman?" (31:10). And the book whose first chapter says "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge" (1:7) praises, near its last verse, "a woman who fears the LORD" (31:30).
The verse to carry
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.”
Proverbs 31:30
To talk about
1. "Open your mouth for the mute, in the cause of all who are left desolate" (31:8). When have you seen someone speak up for a person who couldn't speak up for themselves, and what did it take?
2. "Strength and dignity are her clothing. She laughs at the time to come" (31:25). What helps you face what is ahead without dread?
3. "Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised" (31:30). What do people often praise that this verse calls deceitful or vain, and what would it look like to praise what it praises?
