Proverbs 27: Iron sharpens iron
Read Proverbs 27:1-27 before you meet.
In a few lines
"Don’t boast" (27:1) and "Let another man praise you" (27:2) share one Hebrew verb, halal. And in "The wounds of a friend are faithful" (27:6), friend is a form of the verb love, while the enemy whose kisses are profuse is named with the verb hate.
The verse to carry
“Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance.”
Proverbs 27:17
To talk about
1. "Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth" (27:2). Why do you think praise means more when it comes from someone else?
2. "The wounds of a friend are faithful" (27:6). What helps you hear a hard word from a friend, and what makes it hard?
3. "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance" (27:17). Who has sharpened you, and what did they do?
