Proverbs 12: The tongue of the wise heals
Read Proverbs 12:1-28 before you meet.
In a few lines
The prudent man of 12:16 and 12:23 is arum, the word Genesis 3:1 uses of the serpent, and both times he covers: an insult (12:16) and his knowledge (12:23). And 12:17 and 12:22 share their Hebrew words for truth and lying: "those who do the truth are his delight" (12:22).
The verse to carry
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad.”
Proverbs 12:25
To talk about
1. "Whoever loves correction loves knowledge" (12:1). What would it look like to love correction, and not only put up with it?
2. "A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent" (12:16). When have you seen it was wise to let an insult go, and what helped?
3. "Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad" (12:25). Who might need a kind word from you this week?
