Proverbs 11: Accurate weights
Read Proverbs 11:1-31 before you meet.
In a few lines
One frame holds a pair of scales and a heart: "A false balance is an abomination to the LORD, but accurate weights are his delight" (11:1), and the perverse in heart are "an abomination to the LORD", the blameless "his delight" (11:20). And the Hebrew word for righteousness, tsedaqah, comes five times in this chapter, more than in any other chapter of Proverbs.
The verse to carry
“When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Proverbs 11:2
To talk about
1. "When pride comes, then comes shame, but with humility comes wisdom" (11:2). Why do you think humility and wisdom go together?
2. "One who brings gossip betrays a confidence, but one who is of a trustworthy spirit is one who keeps a secret" (11:13). What makes someone safe to confide in, and what makes it hard to keep a confidence?
3. "in the multitude of counselors there is victory" (11:14). Whose counsel do you seek when you have a hard choice to make, and what makes it easy or hard to ask?
