Proverbs 10: Love covers all wrongs

Read Proverbs 10:1-32 before you meet.

In a few lines

The hatred of 10:12 comes back in 10:18, "He who hides hatred has lying lips", and in Hebrew hides is 10:12's covers: the chapter has a covering that loves and a covering that lies. And in one chapter both "the hand of the diligent" (10:4) and "The LORD’s blessing" (10:22) bring wealth, with one Hebrew word.

The verse to carry

“Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs.”

Proverbs 10:12

To talk about

  1. 1. "Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs" (10:12). A few verses later, "He who hides hatred has lying lips" (10:18). What do you think makes love's covering different from that hiding?

  2. 2. "In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely" (10:19). When has holding back words been the wise thing, for you or for someone you've watched?

  3. 3. "The memory of the righteous is blessed" (10:7). Think of someone whose memory is a blessing to you. What do you still remember them doing or saying?
