Numbers 7: Each prince on his day

Read Numbers 7 before you meet.

In a few lines

Numbers 7 goes back to the day the tabernacle was set up (7:1; Exodus 40:17). Kohath got no wagons because they carried the sanctuary's holy things on their shoulders (7:9; Numbers 4:15). Then twelve princes brought exactly the same gift on twelve days, in the order their tribes camped (Numbers 2), and the text names every one.

The verse to carry

“When Moses went into the Tent of Meeting to speak with the LORD, he heard his voice speaking to him from above the mercy seat that was on the ark of the Testimony, from between the two cherubim; and he spoke to him.”

Numbers 7:89

To talk about

  1. 1. Every prince brought the same gift, and the text still names each one on his own day (7:11-83). How does it change things for you to know that a gift like everyone else's is still seen?

  2. 2. The sons of Kohath got no wagons; their part was to carry the holy things on their shoulders (7:9). Is there something you're carrying that can't be made easier, only carried? How could your group help?

  3. 3. Moses went into the Tent of Meeting "to speak with the LORD", and heard his voice (7:89). Where and when do you make room to listen to God?
