Numbers 28: A calendar of offerings
Read Numbers 28:1-31 before you meet.
In a few lines
Every set day in the calendar came "in addition to the continual burnt offering" (28:10): the Sabbath, the new moon, the seven days and the first fruits never replaced the lamb in the morning and the lamb at evening (28:4). And the Hebrew for "every Sabbath" (28:10) and "every month" (28:14) comes back together in only one other verse, Isaiah 66:23.
The verse to carry
“You shall offer the one lamb in the morning, and you shall offer the other lamb at evening,”
Numbers 28:4
To talk about
1. Nothing in this calendar pushed out the lamb in the morning and the lamb at evening (28:4, 28:10, 28:23). What daily rhythm with God do you keep, and what most often crowds it out?
2. The LORD set the times: "in their due season" (28:2), the Sabbath, the months, the feasts. Do set times, like a weekly day or a yearly season, help your faith or make it feel routine? What makes the difference?
3. The feast days had their celebration and also a male goat "to make atonement for you" (28:22). Why might a day of joy still include dealing with sin? How do you bring confession into the good times, not only the hard ones?
