Numbers 11: The Spirit on the seventy
Read Numbers 11 before you meet.
In a few lines
The Hebrew word for the Spirit the LORD put on the seventy elders (11:25) is the word for the wind that brought the quail (11:31): ruach. And when Joshua said of two men prophesying in the camp, "forbid them!", Moses answered, "I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets" (11:28-29). John once told Jesus, "we forbade him", and Jesus said, "Don’t forbid him" (Mark 9:38-39).
The verse to carry
“Moses said to him, “Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD’s people were prophets, that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!””
Numbers 11:29
To talk about
1. "We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing" (11:5). When have you remembered the past as better than it was, and what did it do to how you saw the present?
2. Moses said, "I am not able to bear all this people alone" (11:14), and the LORD gave him others to bear it with him (11:17). What are you carrying alone right now, and who could help you bear it?
3. Eldad and Medad prophesied in the camp, not at the Tent (11:26), and Joshua said, "forbid them!" (11:28). When have you been uneasy with God working through someone outside your group, and what does Moses' answer (11:29) say to that?
