Nehemiah 10: Sealed and sworn
Read Nehemiah 10:1-39 before you meet.
In a few lines
Nehemiah 10 isn't only a list of names: they seal the covenant written at the end of chapter 9, the rest of the people bind themselves with a curse and an oath, and the promises end at God's house: "We will not forsake the house of our God" (10:39), the house chapter 13 finds forsaken (13:11).
The verse to carry
“For the children of Israel and the children of Levi shall bring the wave offering of the grain, of the new wine, and of the oil, to the rooms where the vessels of the sanctuary are, and the priests who minister, with the gatekeepers and the singers. We will not forsake the house of our God.”
Nehemiah 10:39
To talk about
1. They wrote their covenant down and sealed it, and the chapter names those who sealed (9:38, 10:1). Is there something you've promised God that you'd be willing to write down? What would it change to see it in writing?
2. The rest of the people "joined with their brothers, their nobles" (10:29) to make the same promise. Who do you need beside you to keep what you've promised God? Who needs you beside them?
3. The covenant's promises were plain and practical, and they ended, "We will not forsake the house of our God" (10:39). What would one plain, practical step look like for you this week?
