Nehemiah 1: Remember the word
Read Nehemiah 1:1-11 before you meet.
In a few lines
Before Nehemiah asks the king for anything, he weeps (1:4) and prays "day and night" (1:6), and asks God to "Remember" the word God himself gave Moses (1:8-9). It is the first "Remember" of a book whose last words are "Remember me, my God, for good" (Nehemiah 13:31).
The verse to carry
“Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand.”
Nehemiah 1:10
To talk about
1. Nehemiah was far away in Susa when the news came, and still he "sat down and wept" (1:4) and prayed "day and night" (1:6). Whose trouble, far from you, is on your heart, and what would praying for them look like this week?
2. Nehemiah asked God to "Remember" what God himself had said (1:8). Which of God's promises would you bring back to him in prayer right now?
3. Nehemiah asked for mercy "in the sight of this man" (1:11) before a conversation that mattered. Is there a conversation coming up that you want to bring to God first?
