Matthew 7: Hears and does them

Read Matthew 7:1-29 before you meet.

In a few lines

In Matthew 7 one Greek verb runs from 7:12 to 7:26 behind the WEB's do, produce, grow and does: the good tree produces good fruit, the one who enters does the will of his Father, and the wise man hears Jesus's words and does them. And "he taught them with authority, and not like the scribes" (7:29) is, in the Greek, the same words as the end of Mark 1:22.

The verse to carry

“Therefore, whatever you desire for men to do to you, you shall also do to them; for this is the law and the prophets.”

Matthew 7:12

To talk about

  1. 1. "First remove the beam out of your own eye" (7:5). What helps you look honestly at your own life before you look at someone else's?

  2. 2. "Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you." (7:7). What makes it easy or hard for you to keep asking God?

  3. 3. "Everyone therefore who hears these words of mine and does them" (7:24). Which of Jesus's words on the mountain do you find hardest to do, and what would one small step look like this week?
