Matthew 5: Blessed
Read Matthew 5:1-48 before you meet.
In a few lines
In Matthew 5 the first and the eighth "Blessed" sayings end with the same words, "for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven" (5:3, 5:10). And the first time Matthew calls God Father is here, in Jesus's words: "glorify your Father who is in heaven" (5:16).
The verse to carry
“Even so, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:16
To talk about
1. Jesus begins with nine sayings that start with "Blessed" (5:3-11). Which one speaks to you most this week, and why?
2. "let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (5:16). What is one good work you could do this week, so that others may see it and glorify the Father?
3. "pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you" (5:44). What makes that hard, and what might help you begin?
