Matthew 24: Watch therefore
Read Matthew 24:1-51 before you meet.
In a few lines
The word behind coming in the disciples' question, parousia, is in no other Gospel: Matthew has it four times, all in this chapter (24:3, 24:27, 24:37, 24:39). And Jesus's answer doesn't stop where the chapter does: in the WEB his words run on to the end of 25:46.
The verse to carry
“Watch therefore, for you don’t know in what hour your Lord comes.”
Matthew 24:42
To talk about
1. Jesus says, "Because iniquity will be multiplied, the love of many will grow cold." (24:12). What helps keep your love for God and for the people around you from growing cold?
2. Jesus asks, "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has set over his household, to give them their food in due season?" (24:45). What is one ordinary task in front of you this week that you want to do faithfully?
3. "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." (24:35). Which words of Jesus do you most want to hold on to this week, and why?
