Matthew 12: Someone greater is here
Read Matthew 12:1-50 before you meet.
In a few lines
Three times in Matthew 12 Jesus says one greater is here: "one greater than the temple" (12:6), "someone greater than Jonah" (12:41) and "someone greater than Solomon" (12:42). And the verb of "Stretch out your hand" (12:13) comes back at the chapter's end, when Jesus "stretched out his hand toward his disciples" (12:49).
The verse to carry
“He won’t break a bruised reed. He won’t quench a smoking flax, until he leads justice to victory.”
Matthew 12:20
To talk about
1. "Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath day" (12:12). What good could you do for someone this week that you have been putting off?
2. "For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks" (12:34). What have your words this week shown you about what is in your heart?
3. The men of Nineveh "repented at the preaching of Jonah" (12:41). What helps you turn around when God's word shows you something in your life?
