Matthew 10: Sheep among wolves

Read Matthew 10:1-42 before you meet.

In a few lines

In Matthew 10 the word worthy comes seven times: the twelve are to find out who is worthy in whatever city or village they enter (10:11), and Jesus ends by saying who isn't worthy of him (10:37-38). And many of the words Mark gives on the Mount of Olives (Mark 13:9-13), Matthew gives here, as Jesus sends out the twelve (10:17-22).

The verse to carry

“Therefore don’t be afraid. You are of more value than many sparrows.”

Matthew 10:31

To talk about

  1. 1. "Freely you received, so freely give" (10:8). What have you received from God that you could freely give to someone this week?

  2. 2. Three times Jesus says "don’t be afraid" (10:26, 10:28, 10:31). Which fear would you most like to bring to him, and which of his words here speaks to it?

  3. 3. "It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher" (10:25). What is one way you could be more like Jesus this week?
