Mark 5: Only believe
Read Mark 5:1-43 before you meet.
In a few lines
Mark tells two stories as one: Jesus calls the woman ill for twelve years (5:25) "Daughter" (5:34), and while he is still speaking, word comes about Jairus's twelve-year-old daughter (5:35, 5:42). And of the five times someone begs Jesus here, the only no Mark records is to the freed man who asked to be with him; Jesus sends him home to tell (5:18-19).
The verse to carry
“But Jesus, when he heard the message spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.””
Mark 5:36
To talk about
1. The man begged to go with Jesus, and Jesus sent him to his own house and friends to tell them what the Lord had done (5:18-19). Who are the people you could tell what God has done for you?
2. The woman came "fearing and trembling" and "told him all the truth" (5:33), and Jesus answered, "Daughter" (5:34). What helps you come to God honestly when you're afraid?
3. Jesus said, "Don’t be afraid, only believe" (5:36) right after the worst news came. What helps you keep trusting God when the news is bad?
