Mark 4: Ears to hear
Read Mark 4:1-41 before you meet.
In a few lines
Jesus explained the farmer's parable himself: the farmer sows the word, and those on every kind of ground hear it (4:14-20). And in the boat he "rebuked" the wind and said "Be still!" (4:39) with the same two Greek verbs he used when he silenced an unclean spirit (1:25).
The verse to carry
“They were greatly afraid and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?””
Mark 4:41
To talk about
1. In Jesus's explanation those on every kind of ground hear the word, and what happens after is what differs (4:15-20). What helps something you hear from God take root rather than fade?
2. The man sleeps and rises, and the seed grows "though he doesn’t know how" (4:27). Where have you seen something good grow that you couldn't make happen or hurry?
3. In the storm the disciples asked, "Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?" (4:38). Have you ever wanted to ask God something like that? What did you do with the question?
