Mark 3: Whoever does the will of God
Read Mark 3:1-35 before you meet.
In a few lines
In the synagogue Jesus "looked around at them with anger, being grieved at the hardening of their hearts" (3:5): the only time Mark has the Greek word for anger. And the word behind "He is insane" (3:21) is the one Mark uses after a healing, when "they were all amazed" (2:12).
The verse to carry
“For whoever does the will of God is my brother, my sister, and mother.”
Mark 3:35
To talk about
1. Jesus asked, "Is it lawful on the Sabbath day to do good or to do harm? To save a life or to kill?" (3:4), "But they were silent" (3:4). When is it hardest for you to speak up for the good that could be done?
2. Mark says Jesus appointed the twelve first "that they might be with him" (3:14), and then to send them out. What does being with him look like in an ordinary week for you?
3. Jesus looked at those who sat around him and said, "Behold, my mother and my brothers!" (3:34). What would it look like for this group to treat one another as the family Jesus describes in 3:35?
