Mark 2: Through the roof
Read Mark 2:1-28 before you meet.
In a few lines
Mark 2 is four objections, and each one asks why: why he forgives, why he eats with sinners, why his disciples don't fast, why they pluck grain on the Sabbath. None of Jesus's answers is only a rule. He speaks of the Son of Man's authority on earth to forgive sins, of why he came, of a bridegroom, and of the Son of Man as lord even of the Sabbath.
The verse to carry
“When Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are healthy have no need for a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.””
Mark 2:17
To talk about
1. Four people carried a man to Jesus and opened a roof to do it (2:3-4), and Jesus saw *their* faith (2:5). Who has helped carry you toward Jesus, or who might you help carry?
2. Jesus ate with tax collectors and sinners and said, "I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance" (2:17). Why do you think some people find that hard to hear, and others find it good news?
3. "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath" (2:27). What would it look like this week to receive rest as something given to you?
