Mark 14: Not what I desire
Read Mark 14:1-72 before you meet.
In a few lines
One Greek verb runs through this chapter seven times: Judas's deliver and Jesus's "one of you will betray me" (14:18). It is the verb Jesus had used of himself, "handed over" (9:31). And only Mark says the rooster would crow twice (14:30).
The verse to carry
“He said, “Abba, Father, all things are possible to you. Please remove this cup from me. However, not what I desire, but what you desire.””
Mark 14:36
To talk about
1. While some grumbled about waste, Jesus said of the woman, "She has done what she could" (14:8). What would it look like for you to do what you can for Jesus this week?
2. "Watch and pray, that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak" (14:38). Where do you feel that most, and what helps you watch and pray?
3. Peter said, "I will not deny you" (14:31), and that night denied him, then remembered Jesus's words and wept (14:72). When have you meant something with your whole heart and fallen short? What did you do next?
