Mark 1: The beginning of the Good News
Read Mark 1:1-45 before you meet.
In a few lines
In Mark 1 the ones who say who Jesus is are the book's first verse (1:1), a voice from the sky, "You are my beloved Son" (1:11), and a man with an unclean spirit, "the Holy One of God" (1:24). The people in the synagogue only ask, "What is this?" (1:27).
The verse to carry
“and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News.””
Mark 1:15
To talk about
1. "Immediately they left their nets, and followed him" (1:18). What would it look like for you to follow Jesus more closely this week?
2. "Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there" (1:35). Where and when do you find quiet to pray, and what most often crowds it out?
3. The leper said, "If you want to, you can make me clean" (1:40), and Jesus answered, "I want to" (1:41). When have you been sure Jesus could help, but unsure he wanted to?
