Luke 6: On a level place

Read Luke 6:1-49 before you meet.

In a few lines

Jesus answers four blessings with four woes, in the same order: poor and rich, hungry and full, weeping and laughing, hated and spoken well of (6:20-26). And the "credit" Jesus asks about three times (6:32-34) is the Greek word the WEB gives as "favor" in the angel's word to Mary (1:30).

The verse to carry

“Therefore be merciful, even as your Father is also merciful.”

Luke 6:36

To talk about

  1. 1. Luke says Jesus "went out to the mountain to pray, and he continued all night in prayer to God" (6:12). What helps you make time to pray, and what gets in the way?

  2. 2. Jesus says, "bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you" (6:28). What makes that hard, and what is one way you could pray for someone you find it hard to pray for?

  3. 3. Jesus asks, "Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and don’t do the things which I say?" (6:46). Which of his words in this chapter is hardest for you to do, and what would doing it look like this week?
