Luke 21: Lift up your heads
Read Luke 21:1-38 before you meet.
In a few lines
The widow is called poor in two Greek words: Luke's own, penichros, in no other verse of the New Testament (21:2), and Jesus's, ptochos (21:3). And Jesus's answer ends in words from the parable of the farmer: in Greek, the cares of 21:34 are the cares that choke those among the thorns (8:14), and the endurance of 21:19 is the perseverance of those in the good ground (8:15).
The verse to carry
“By your endurance you will win your lives.”
Luke 21:19
To talk about
1. Jesus says, "By your endurance you will win your lives." (21:19). Where do you most need endurance right now, and what helps you keep going?
2. "So be careful, or your hearts will be loaded down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life" (21:34). What most easily weighs your heart down in an ordinary week?
3. "Therefore be watchful all the time, praying" (21:36). What helps you keep watch and keep praying in an ordinary week?
